Beaufort High to host Blythewood in 4-A Division II playoffs

sports@islandpacket.comNovember 9, 2013

Beaufort High linebacker Andrew Smyth posted on Twitter late Friday night that it looked like the Eagles would be a No. 6 seed in the Class 4-A Division II playoffs and get to stay at home for the first round.

That scenario was confirmed Saturday morning when the brackets came out. Beaufort High (8-3, 3-2 Region 8-AAAA), which cemented a playoff bid and second place in the region with its 35-12 win over Colleton County on Friday night, will be seeded sixth and host 11th-seeded Blythewood next Friday.

The Bengals (7-4, 3-2) finished third in Region 4-AAAA.

Beaufort High and Blythewood have one common opponent this season -- Aiken.

The Eagles won 21-0 Sept. 6 at Aiken, while Blythewood beat the Green Hornets at home, 34-20, a month later on Oct. 4

Friday's winner will face the winner of the game between third-seeded North Augusta and 14th-seeded Laurens.

Beaufort High's last trip to the 4-A playoffs came in 2010. The Eagles fell 33-14 at home to Easley.
