A 26-year-old man was knocked unconscious and robbed Thursday on St. Helena Island.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office went at about 7:30 p.m. to Coffin Point Road, where the victim said he had been walking on Cee Cee Road when a man emerged from a black car and approached him, according to a news release.

The man struck the victim in the head with an unknown object, leaving him temporarily unconscious. After the victim came to and walked back to his home, he realized his wallet had been stolen, according to the release.

He was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The incident came one day after a 30-year-old woman was pistol-whipped, carjacked and robbed on St. Helena Island. The victim was walking to her car on Lands End Road when a man wearing a mask approached from the woods and struck her with a handgun, according to the Sheriff's Office. The suspect stole her car keys and purse before driving away in her burgundy 2008 Chevrolet Impala.

There is no evidence to suggest the events are connected, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.
