Bluffton, Port Royal Town Council election results finalized

Outcomes of Tuesday's town council races in Bluffton and Port Royal remained unchanged Friday after official results were released by the Beaufort County Board of Elections and Voter Registration.

In Bluffton, Larry Toomer won one of two council seats up for grabs, receiving nearly 30 percent of votes cast. Incumbent Mike Raymond and challenger Fred Hamilton collected enough votes â€" both about 16 percent of the total â€" to qualify for a Nov. 19 runoff for the second spot, beating out incumbent Oliver Brown and challengers Gary Bensch, Garfield Moss and Charlie Wetmore.

In Port Royal, incumbents Mary Beth Gray Heyward and Vernon Deloach will return for four more years on town council, according to official results. Heyward led in the number of votes, with 146, followed by DeLoach with 108.

Turnout was about 9 percent in Bluffton and near 6 percent in Port Royal, according to results.
