A woman was pistol-whipped, carjacked and robbed on St. Helena Island Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, told sheriff's deputies she was walking to her car around 6 a.m. Wednesday after dropping her child off at relative's home on Lands End Road when a man approached her from nearby woods, wearing a mask and armed with a handgun.

The man pistol-whipped the woman and stole her car keys and purse, driving away in her burgundy 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The car was last seen heading in the direction of Sea Island Parkway, the release said. The stolen Impala has the S.C. license plate 726-4FN, according to the release.

Deputies arrived to find the woman bleeding from a laceration on her head. She was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Her condition was not released.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing camouflage clothing, the release said. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 843-255-3407 or S.C. Crimestoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
