Hilton Head Institute gets a reality check

Organizers of the inaugural Hilton Head Island Institute's three-day lecture and panel series are to be commended for thinking big and successfully putting on their first ImagiNATION event, aimed at raising Hilton Head Island's profile as a hub for intellectual thought and new ideas. We have said the festival has the potential to brand the island as the place to be for arts, culture and education as well as beach, golf, tennis and muted development. Many others believe it too, with the festival earning support from the Greater Island Council, the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, the University of South Carolina Beaufort and others. But poor attendance at the Oct. 24-26 series should signal organizers that changes must be made as they prep for the 2014 event. Only about 200 to 225 people attended the event which featured former Facebook marketing head Randi Zuckerberg, sister of company founder, Mark Zuckerberg; education expert, Tony Wager; author William Paul Young, who wrote the spiritual novel, “The Shackâ€
