It is now abundantly clear that we have a totally dysfunctional government. We have saddled ourselves with an incompetent president and a Congress full of self-serving partisans who are concerned with only one thing: getting re-elected. Clearly the benefits for politicians are far too generous.
In addition to everything else, they lie to us. The most recent blatant example is the recently released unemployment report. The government says unemployment dropped from 7.3 percent to 7.2 percent. Of course the official government employment rate is nothing more than a statistical deception. You'd think a downtick in the unemployment rate would mean that more people are employed. Not so. The number of people 16 years or older who have decided not to participate in the labor force increased by another 136,000 in September. We now have 90 million-plus Americans who don't have jobs, and aren't looking for one either.
Why do they put out statistics like this? To deceive us. If we knew how bad things really are we might actually throw them all out. I propose we do just that. Throw them all out and replace them with people who will support two things -- term limits and a promise not to pass any law they are not subject to themselves.
Perhaps we can eventually have leadership that actually does what is best for the country, not what is best for themselves.
