New farmers market not as good as old one

info@islandpacket.comNovember 1, 2013

I recently visited the farmers market in Shelter Cove on Hilton Head Island. It was quite the disappointment. There were three food/produce vendors and five vendors selling crafts. The atmosphere was subdued; customers were few and vendor' spirits low. When privately run, the Hilton Head Island Farmers Market at Honey Horn was vibrant, crowded and fun. Since the town (in conjunction with the Island Recreation Association) chased the market founder away with their anti-business attitude and visionless passion for the almighty buck, the market has become an embarrassment; Bluffton puts us to shame. This market is a disaster, an embarrassment to Hilton Head. As with Obamacare, what makes the government think it can do better than the private sector? I suggest the powers that be encourage the market to return to its previous site and past grandeur and be satisfied with the increased exposure for Honey Horn amenities.
