Operation Holiday Heroes begins registration

Operation Holiday Heroes, a countywide collaboration of nonprofit and faith organizations that collect Christmas toys for needy Beaufort County children and families, will conduct registration at several locations beginning in November.

Participating agencies include Bluffton Self Help, The Deep Well Project, Love House Ministries, the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots and the United Way of the Lowcountry.

Only one person per family needs to apply.

Register with:

  • Salvation Army -- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 through 8; 2505 North St., Beaufort, 843-524-3727. Date and time slots for the toy shop will be provided during registration.

    To register for the Christmas program, all copies of income and expenses, along with birth certificates, are to be submitted so a financial analysis can be completed to determine eligibility.

  • Love House Ministries -- noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 18 through Dec. 16; 423C Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort, 843-525-1043.

    To receive assistance, bring a photo ID; proof of residency, such as a lease or electric bill; Social Security card or birth certificate for each member of the household; proof of household income, such as check stubs or Department of Social Services printouts; and all household bills.

  • Deep Well -- 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Dec. 7; 154 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, 843-785-2849. The Christmas program is for Hilton Head families with a child 12 or under.

    To receive gifts, bring a current utility bill with your name and address on it; provide names, birth dates and the names of the schools your children attend; and a valid phone number.

  • Bluffton Self Help -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4, 11 and 18; 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 2, 9 and 16; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9 and 16 and Dec. 7 and 14; 39 Sheridan Park Circle, Suite 10, Bluffton; 843-757-8000. For the Thanksgiving program, you must provide proof of Bluffton residency.

    To receive toys, bring proof of Bluffton residency, such as a lease or electric bill, photo ID of parent and birth certificate for each child in the household. If you are not the child's parent, you must provide documentation of legal custody or guardianship, Social Security or identification numbers for the children, and the names of the schools the children attend.
