SUN CITY SOFTBALL TEAM GRABS SPOT IN TOP TOURNAMENT

The Sun City travel softball team has qualified for the ISSA Tournament of Champions to be held in January in Tampa, Fla.

Sun City recently finished fourth in its seven-team bracket of a tournament containing powerful teams from Pennsylvania, Charlotte and Wake Forest. Red Kopytko was named to the ISSA all-American team for his play in the tournament.

Sun City defeated the Charlotte 60's, 18-14, on the strength of hitting from Kopytko, Rick Dory and Dennis Jackson, who each contributed three hits apiece. Outfielder Ken Abshier played solid defense in the win.

Sun City also defeated HME, from Atlanta, winning 13-2 behind the pitching and defense of Jackson. Tom DaParma made eight putouts in left field.

BEAUFORT VOLLEYBALL CLUB MEETING NOV. 4

The Beaufort Volleyball Club will be holding a parent/player information meeting on Monday, Nov. 4, in Beaufort. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, located at 1100 Boundary Street. All interested persons are urged to attend.

Mike Dixon is the new director of Beaufort Volleyball Club.

Club volleyball is for boys and girls ages 8 to 18. The season runs from January through March.
