QB Raekwon Smalls easing back in for Battery Creek football team

Battery Creek High School

Raekwon Smalls goes by "Rocky," and the moniker could also be applied to the Battery Creek High School quarterback's junior season to this point.

Smalls suffered a severely bruised knee during the preseason and was not cleared to play until early October. Since then he has been eased in.

After missing an Oct. 18 win against North Charleston for non-injury reasons, Smalls enjoyed his most action of the season during the 62-0 victory at Burke. But not all at quarterback.

Smalls was used at running back at times in the Dolphins' split-back set. He carried four times for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Dolphins coach Jim Shuman said Smalls was still shaking off some rust leading the offense at quarterback and that he will probably share time with senior Zach Mahan movnig forward.

Battery Creek (4-5, 3-3 Region 6-AA) travels to Academic Magnet on Friday to close the regular season.
