Car catches fire in Beaufort wreck

A tow-truck driver was taken to the hospital early Friday after a fiery crash in Beaufort.

A man was driving an empty tow truck in the 400 block of Joe Frazier Road at about 9 a.m. when he experienced a minor medical issue, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. He lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and hit a tree. The cab of the truck caught fire, and flames spread to nearby brush before they were extinguished, according to the Burton Fire District.

The driver, who was alert and conscious, was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to the sheriff's office and fire district.
