Sand Sharks finish 2nd at SCAD Fall Invitational

The USC Beaufort women's golf team posted its best team score of the fall season Tuesday, carding a 305 to finish second in the SCAD Fall Invitational at Savannah's Wilmington Island Club.

The Sand Sharks began the day in fourth place after a 320 on Monday but moved up two spots with the second-best round of the day Tuesday. USCB finished at 625, 25 shots behind host SCAD Savannah.

Senior Kendra Collins (79-73--152) and juniors Samantha O'Donnell (74-78--152) and Tori DeGroodt (79-73--152) finished in a tie for third to lead the Sand Sharks. Junior Lindsey Mapes (88-81--169) tied for 37th and sophomore Hayley Miller (89-89--178) tied for 44th.

SCAD's Alazne Urizar (72-72--144) won the individual title by one shot over teammate Sofia Moinaro (71-74--145).

The event was the last of the fall campaign for the Sand Sharks, who finished runner-up in three of their four fall tournaments. USCB opens the spring season Feb. 9-10 at the World Golf Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla.
