Junior goalkeeper Chelsie Mummert has been named the Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer after leading the USC Beaufort to a pair of victories last week.

Mummert recorded eight saves in the Sand Sharks' 2-1 upset of rival SCAD Savannah on Friday and made seven stops in a 1-0 win at St. Andrews University on Sunday. It was Mummert's fourth shutout of the season and the ninth of her career.

It's the second Defensive Player of the Week honor for Mummert, who also earned the award in the first week of the 2012 season. Mummert is the second USCB soccer player to earn weekly honors this season. Midfielder Jessica Tooley was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 23.

Mummert ranks second the Sun Conference in saves (107), third in saves per game (6.69) and seventh in goals against average (2.11).

The Sand Sharks (7-8-1, 3-4 TSC) wrap up the regular season with two home matches this week, hosting Southeastern at 3 p.m. Thursday and Ave Maria at 1 p.m. Saturday.
