HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Hilton Head Island's 55 and Over Men's level 8.5 team captured the first title in the USTA South Carolina Combo Doubles League Championships being held on the island this weekend, defeating a squad from Greenville in the finals Friday.

The Hilton Head team, captained by Dave Dockum, qualifies for the Combo Doubles Southern Sectional Championships early next year. A few members of the team also won a title at last weekend's Mixed Doubles State League Championships in Aiken.

About 250 teams are competing for 28 championships in this weekend's tournament, which is being hosted by Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center with matches at a dozen sites around Hilton Head. The event, the largest USTA event in South Carolina, wraps up Monday.
