A Hargray cable box in Bluffton was burned Saturday, soon after employees found someone had tampered with it to get free service.

Hargray employees discovered an extra cable wire had been connected to a box in the 800 block of May River Road to provide free service to a home, according to an incident report. They secured the box and put an additional lock on it.

Later, they received a call about an outage in the area on Beach Road and found that a fire had caused $1,000 in damage to the box, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
