Backpack Buddies thanks Long Cove fund

Backpack Buddies of Bluffton would like to thank the Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund for the very generous donation that helped fund our summer Backpack Buddies program, "The Summer Nutrition Club."

Backpack Buddies is a program that sends food home on Friday afternoon with children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. During the school year, these children get breakfast and lunch at school and the backpacks on the weekend, but none of this food is available to them in the summer.

Last summer, working with the Bluffton Farmer's Market, "The Summer Nutrition Club" was born. This program allows the children and their families to shop for fresh produce using vouchers that the children receive at the end of the school year. More than 200 children participated in the 10-week program, enjoying fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers. We are a grassroots, totally volunteer organization, and without the generous financial help of the Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund, the summer program would not have been possible.

We are very grateful to the Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund for its commitment to our community at large and especially for its support of our efforts to eliminate childhood hunger in Bluffton.
