A woman was gravely injured using a chain saw Saturday afternoon on Lady's Island.

The victim was cutting back limbs about 3:30 p.m. when she suffered severe injuries to the upper half of her body, according to Lee Levesque, spokesman of the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District. It did not appear that the chain saw malfunctioned, Levesque said.

The woman was flown by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The injuries were not expected to be life threatening, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
