Defense was the story as Whale Branch returned from its bye week to knock off Bethune-Bowman, 48-6, and move above .500 in Region 5-A.

Nyles Pinckney blocked a punt, scooped it up and ran 25 yards for a touchdown, while Shawn Harley returned a Mohawks fumble 32 yards for a score.

Keani Porter had two interceptions, as well.

"The defense played very, very well," Whale Branch athletics director and assistant coach Carlos Cave said.

Other Warriors highlights included a 15-yard touchdown run by Michael Dantzler, a 65-yard touchdown run by Malik Brown, a 25-yard touchdown run by Stephon Eugene and a 35-yard completion from Amagee Stephens to Jamar Scott.

The Mohawks' lone score came on an interception return.

The Warriors improve to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in region play, while the Mohawks fall to 1-6, 1-2 in region.
