Prep Roundup, Oct. 10: Hole-in-one highlights Bluffton girls' victory

Bluffton 155, Hilton Head Island High 203, Beaufort High 265: The Bobcats dominated Thursday at Island West in their final regular-season match.

It was the first match in six years of coaching for Bluffton's David Crosby that a player had a hole-in-one. Bluffton's Kathryn Thorne, an eighth-grader, had the ace and tied for the low round with a 37.

Monday is the Region 8-AAAA championship at Beaufort.

Bluffton 6, Colleton County 0: The Bobcats (7-4, 5-1) continue to lead Region 8-AAAA. They host Summerville for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Hilton Head Island High 3, Whale Branch 0: The Seahawks celebrated Senior Night by improving to 22-4 with a 25-11, 25-8, 25-6 win over the Whale Branch Warriors.

Hilton Head honored three seniors -- Blair Daber, Renee Homad and Mallory Lewis -- prior to the match.

Hannah Edelman led the Seahawks with nine aces and nine kills, while Lewis had 11 kills and seven blocks. Homad had 29 assists and an ace, Sierra Davis had five kills, Aileen Moore had three aces, two kills and a block and Haley Matousek scored three aces and turned in some stellar defensive play.

Bluffton 2, Savannah Christian 1; Bluffton 2, Calvary 0: Bluffton beat Savannah Christian (10-25, 25-19, 25-21) and Calvary (25-21, 25-16) in a tri-match to improve to 28-8-1.

The Bobcats play Friday and Saturday at the Wando Invitational. They open play at 5 p.m. Friday against Summerville.

JV: Savannah Christian 2, Bluffton 0

First Baptist 3, Hilton Head Prep 0: The Dolphins fell to 2-17 after a 25-10, 25-13, 25-10 loss on Senior Night. Seniors Megan Kelly (1 kill and 14 digs), Carlie Van (seven assists and nine digs) and Deia Hunt (two kills, block, 10 digs) were honored.

Also contributing were Riley Brown (three kills) and Keira Wojcikiewicz (15 digs).

Hilton Head Prep plays its final game Monday at Hilton Head Christian Academy.

Thomas Heyward Academy 3, Beaufort Academy 1: The Rebels (11-7, 7-1 SCISAA Region 1-AA) closed their regular season with a 25-14, 25-16, 16-25, 25-20 win over the Eagles led by Victoria Quick (13 kills, two aces, 16 digs and three assists) and Hailey Malphrus (18 assists).

Also contributing were Haylee Wade (six aces, four digs), Sydney Glassberg (three kills, six aces, 13 digs), Jamie Davis (eight assists) and Shelby Vest (11 kills and 12 digs).

Hilton Head Christian 3, Northwood Academy 0: Stevie DeSimone had 18 kills and five aces to lead the Eagles to a sweep at home, as they defeated Northwood Academy, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.

Hannah Reynolds had six kills, three aces and 26 assists for Hilton Head Christian (11-11 overall, 3-9 SCISAA Region 3-AAA). Kerry Davis added six kills and three aces, Amber Hubbard had five blocks and three kills, and Logan Cherry had three kills and two blocks.

Hilton Head Christian hosts Colleton Prep at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Beaufort High 2, Battery Creek 0; Ashley Ridge 2, Battery Creek 0: The Dolphins fell to 8-8 ovreall after falling 25-19, 25-20 to the Eagles and 25-9, 25-7 to Ashley Ridge. Battery Creek was led by Taniellia Leak and JV call-up Cierra Cohen.
