A vacant mobile home on St. Helena Island was burned to the ground early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames when they arrived about 5 a.m. at the 100 block of Seaside Road, according to Lee Levesque, a spokesman for the Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District.

The single-wide mobile home was destroyed, he said.

The Beaufort County Fire Scene Investigation Team is looking into how the fire began, as it did not appear to be the result of "€Å"normal accidental causes,"€
