Hotel renovation plans move forward

Plans to spruce up the Metropolitan Hotel on Hilton Head Island will proceed now that $111,434 in delinquent taxes has been paid to the Beaufort County Treasurer as of Oct. 1, according to the hotel's new partner. The payment settled all outstanding taxes on the property, according to the Treasurer's Office.

New California Hotels Corp. announced June 13 it would partner with H2 Associates to renovate the 78-room hotel and convert its annex into a hostel and housing for foreign students on work visas.

Plans haven't been submitted to the town yet. Remo Polselli, CEO of the New California Hotels Corp., said in a release that plans are still being developed.

An announcement on the hotel's new name, improvements and renovation schedule would come within 30 days. Renovations are expected to be finished in the spring, Polselli said.
