Birding classes to be held through November

The Hilton Head Island Audubon Society, in conjunction with the Coastal Discovery Museum, will hold a series of introductory birding classes Wednesdays from Oct. 16 through Nov. 6 at the Coastal Discovery Museum.

The classes are:

  • 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16: "About Birding" (binocular selection, field guides, getting started, lists and shapes)
  • 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23: "Backyard Birds" (feeders, bird topography, maturity and migration)
  • 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30: "Birds of Prey" (buteos, accipiters, falcons, osprey, eagles, vultures and owls)
  • 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6: "Shorebirds" (waterbirds, wading birds and swimming birds)
The presentations are free for members of the Hilton Head Island Audubon Society. Nonmembers are welcome, but there is a charge of $5 a family.
