Recreation Briefs, Oct. 6: USCB AD to speak at club meeting Oct. 14

Quin Monahan, the athletics director at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Athletic Club of the LowCountry. The meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 14, at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church on Buckwalter Parkway in Bluffton. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. with a short business meeting and Monahan's talk set to begin at 7 p.m.

Monahan, who just completed his first full year as USCB's AD, will give an update about some exciting changes to the athletics landscape. He will also assess the current Sand Sharks program.

The Sun City Hilton Head travel softball team recently swept three games against teams from Sun City Carolina Lakes in Charlotte.

Doug Baker who had three hits and a home run in a 17-6 win, while Craig Waite, Dean Waters and Lou Fasano added three hits apiece. Baker and Tom DaParma then had three hits apiece in a mercy-rule win over Claire Realty.

In the third game, Sun City Hilton Head edged Sun City Carolina Lakes, 13-11. Baker had three hits again, and Don Feldkamp and Fitz Harding had two RBIs each. Dennis Jackson, DaParma, Harding and Waite added two hits each.

Mike Coriale pitched two of the wins and Jackson pitched a strong game for the third win.

Sun City Hilton Head is now preparing to play in an ISSA National Tournament in Myrtle Beach on Oct 25-27.
