Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra's opening concert to feature Scottish-inspired melodies

Music director and Conductor John Morris Russell will lead the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra in its opening concert, "Scottish Night," at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island.

This season, titled "The Excitement Grows!," marks the 32nd of the orchestra, which began in 1982 with a small group of classical musicians. Russell will be joined by violinist Benjamin Beilman in a paean to the sweeping landscapes and soundscapes of Scotland. The program will include two works of Felix Mendelssohn, his violin concerto and his “Scottishâ€
