Elections board to hold hearings on precinct changes

info@islandpacket.comOctober 4, 2013

The Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections will host public hearings this month on proposed changes to voting precincts.

State law requires that precincts contain no more than 1,500 registered voters, and the board's proposed changes will realign precincts to comply with that law.

The changes would affect about half the precincts in the county, including areas in Beaufort, Burton, Chechessee, Bluffton and Sun City Hilton Head, and on Lady's Island, St. Helena Island and Hilton Head Island.

Public hearings will be as follows:

  • Bluffton at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Rotary Community Center, 11 Recreation Court.

  • Beaufort at 6 p.m. Thursday in Beaufort County Council chambers in the county administration building, 100 Ribaut Road.

  • Hilton Head Island at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 in the community room of the Hilton Head Public Service District, 21 Oak Park Drive.
