Thomas Heyward Academy didn't intend to rely on the run Thursday night in Savannah. It just worked out that way.

Seth Jones carried 18 times for 201 yards and three touchdowns in Thomas Heyward's 28-12 win over St. Andrew's.

"We tried throwing the ball early but we struggled to catch it," Rebels coach Nic Shuford said.

Zach Belger added 67 yards and a score. The Rebels (5-2) scored twice in the first quarter and led 13-0 at the half.

"It was not a very efficient first half," Shuford said. "We came out in the third quarter and put together a nice long scoring drive that got us going."

After the Rebels went up 21-0, the two teams traded scores to make it 28-6 before Shuford got his starters out of the game.

Shuford liked his team's defensive effort.

"Both of their scores were long runs, big plays," Shuford said. "One was late in the fourth quarter. Besides that, I thought the defense played really well."

Jones and Jared Rountree led the Rebels with nine tackles each. Rountree had a sack, and Collin Roach had an interception.
