Elections board to hold public hearings on proposed voter-precinct changes

info@islandpacket.comOctober 3, 2013

The Beaufort County Board of Elections and Registration will host public hearings in the next two weeks to get response to proposed changes to county voting precincts.

State law requires that precincts contain no more than 1,500 registered voters, and the board's proposed changes will realign Beaufort County precincts to comply with that law.

The changes would affect about half the precincts in the county, including areas in the city of Beaufort, Burton, Chechessee, Lady's Island, St. Helena Island, Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Sun City Hilton Head.

Public hearings will be held in:

  • Bluffton at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Rotary Community Center, 11 Recreation Court.

  • Beaufort at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Beaufort County Council chambers at the county administration building, 100 Ribaut Road.

  • Hilton Head Island at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the community room at the Hilton Head Public Service District, 21 Oak Park Drive.

  • For more information, go to the board's website at www.bcgov.net/vote.
