USCB women in 2nd, men 11th after first round of fall golf invitationals

SPARTANBURG -- The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's golf team is in position to contend for its first team title of the season, trailing the host school by one shot after the first round of the Converse Fall Invitational.

The Sand Sharks posted a team score of 323 on Monday at Carolina Country Club.

Senior Kendra Collins, who tied for first in the team's first event of the fall, is back at the top of the leaderboard. She is tied with Converse's Ansley Vaughan for the individual lead after a 4-over-par 76. Junior Samantha O'Donnell is one shot back in third.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.

Men sit 12 shots off lead

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The USCB men's golf team is 12 shots off the lead after the opening round of the Thomas University Fall Invitational at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

The Sand Sharks are 11th, but still within striking distance ofco-leaders Florida A&M, Southern Wesleyan and Webber International.

Brad Curren led USCB in the first round, carding a 74.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
