Bluffton man charged with DUI after Hilton Head crash

An 18-year-old Bluffton man was charged with driving under the influence early Friday on Hilton Head Island after a wreck that sent a woman to the hospital.

The Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division responded to a wreck about 1 a.m. in the 400 block of William Hilton Parkway, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect had been driving west when he hit the passenger side of a vehicle driven by Brenda Pittman, 59, of Hilton Head, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The man was charged with DUI, according to the incident report. His bond was set at $1,022.

Pittman was transported to Hilton Head Hospital, according to Joheida Fister, spokeswoman for the Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division. More information on her condition was not available Friday afternoon.
