Get pink hair to help fight breast cancer

To raise awareness about breast cancer, the imaging department staff at Coastal Carolina and Hilton Head hospitals are inviting the public to get pink hair extensions next week.

Hair Experience events will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Coastal Carolina Hospital, 1000 Medical Center Drive, in Hardeeville; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Hilton Head Hospital, 25 Hospital Center Blvd.

For a $10 donation, you can have pink hair extensions added by master cosmetologist Samantha McCoy from the Merle Norman Salon of Richmond Hill, Ga., according to a news release.

Participants also will have their name entered into a drawing for a gift basket donated by the salon.

Proceeds will be donated to the Lowcountry affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which funds local nonprofit organizations that provide mammograms and other breast services to women unable to pay for them, the release said.

Both hospitals are encouraging women to make appointments for screening mammograms. To make an appointment at Coastal Carolina Hospital, call 843-784-8230; at Hilton Head Hospital, call 843-689-8161.
