The Heritage Library Foundation and the Beaufort County Historical Society will present a special Island History Day program at 5 p.m. Oct. 1 at First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway, on Hilton Head.

Lawrence Rowland, professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina Beaufort and author of "The History of Beaufort County, Volume 1 (1514 - 1861)," will share a brief history of Hilton Head Island. The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of an islandwide celebration of the 350th anniversary of the island's sighting and the town's 30th year of incorporation.

Reservations are not required. Details: Call 843-686-6560 or go to www.heritagelib.org.
