Former Beaufort High kicker and punter Kyle Clark was honored this week for his efforts during Newberry's 27-0 shutout of Catawba on Saturday.

According to a release from Newberry, the sophomore was named the South Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Clark accounted for nine points, making field goals of 21 and 24 yards while also going 3 for 3 on PATs.

In the punting game, he averaged 42.0 yards per punt on six attempts despite less than ideal weather conditions. Catawba managed only two returns for minus-1 yard, making the team's net yardage on punt plays longer than his punting average.

He averaged 58 yards per kickoff with a pair of touchbacks, and Catawba's average starting field position was its own 29.

For the season, Clark is averaging 36.7 yards per punt, with no touchbacks and two inside the opponents' 20.
