Former Hilton Head Island High cross country runner Mackenzie Johnston had a good weekend Sept. 14-15 for the College of Charleston Cougars.

From the school's press release:

Johnston was been named CAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week after breaking the school record in the 8K at the Furman Cross Country Classic this past weekend.

The Hilton Head native paced the Cougars and broke the record with a time of 24:51.18. CofC finished seventh overall on both the men's and women's side, with Johnston racing well enough to finish 25th individually against elite competition.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday at Oregon Ridge Park, in Towson Md., for the Towson Invitational, where they will be the first representatives for The College to compete in CAA competition.
