New commenting policy censorship at its finest

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 24, 2013

If your intent was to stifle reader comments by requiring a Facebook account in order to voice an opinion online (complete with at least four friends), you have succeeded.

One has to wonder how many senior citizens and former military veterans this policy has shut out. A paid subscription to your newspaper should allow subscribers the opportunity to share information, experiences and observations without sacrificing individual privacy rights via a Facebook account.

The Island Packet is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
