Thanks for ridding sites of anonymous comments

Congratulations on your new policy of not allowing anonymous comments to be posted at and

I totally agree with the explanation given by publisher Sara Borton in the Sept. 13 issue of the paper. Name-calling and abusive attacks are much more likely to come from writers who don't have to identify themselves.

This issue was first brought to my attention by former Beaufort County School District superintendent Valerie Truesdale. A couple of years ago, she gave a talk focused on bullying among children. She stated that it's not surprising children bully when they see what adults do, especially those who hide behind anonymity.
