Body discovered in Hilton Head marsh

A body was discovered late Saturday in a marsh on the north end of Hilton Head Island, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

At about 7 p.m., a resident called the Sheriff's Office after three fishermen told him they saw the remains of a human body that had washed ashore in the Jarvis Creek Land Preserve off Spanish Wells Road.

The male body was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy. Identification is pending, and the cause and manner of death are under investigation, according to the release.

More details could be released as the investigation progresses, according to the Sheriff's Office.
