Ridgeland-Hardeeville shuts out Burke, 31-0

sports@islandpacket.comSeptember 21, 2013

Junior Shawn Wilson got the start at running back for Ridgeland-Hardeeville on Friday night in place of injured senior Marquis Griffin, and he made the most of it.

Wilson rushed for a touchdown on the game's first play from scrimmage and went on to rush for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jaguars over Burke, 31-0, in Ridgeland.

Jaguars quarterback D.J. Myers threw for his first three touchdowns of the season -- one to Wilson and two to Gavin Bush.

Ridgeland-Hardeevile coach Blake Raley was happy with his defense, as well.

"We didn't give up a whole lot," Raley said.

Malik Bostick, a freshman linebacker called up from junior varsity this week, had an interception for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars (2-3, 1-0 Region 6-AA) will now prepare for Thursday's game at Battery Creek.

"We've got a short week to figure out how to stop their rushing attack," Raley said.
