Bluffton police hire intelligence expert

Joseph Manning, who specializes in narcotics, community policing and intelligence, is joining the Bluffton Police Department as a captain.

Manning, who has worked in law enforcement for 27 years, was a lieutenant with the Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office's Narcotics Division, Internal Affairs Unit, Intelligence Unit and SWAT Team.

He completed a six-month fellowship with the FBI National Joint Terrorism Task Force. He also has coordinated with federal agencies during events such as the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, the 2012 presidential campaigns and the 2009 Super Bowl.
