Prep roundup, Sept. 18: Hilton Head Island sweeps home cross country meets

The Hilton Head Island cross country teams swept their home meet Wednesday at Honey Horn Plantation. The meets featured runners form every public high school in the county.

For the Seahawks, Cisco Ferre was the winner in a time of 16:44, and Ester Anderson won the girls race in a time of 21:22.

"In my 15 years in coaching, this is our largest weekday meet ever," Seahawks coach Bill Wrightson said. "Every school in the county had runners here. For the boys, we had close to 80 runners and around 60 for the girls."

The Seahawks will compete next at the Sept. 28 Lowcountry Invitational in Charleston.

Bluffton 2, Savannah Country Day 0; Bluffton 2, Glynn Academy 0: The Bobcats (11-7) won two more games -- 25-18, 25-15 over Savannah Country Day and 25-13, 25-16 over Glynn Academy.

"The girls are just really playing well," Bluffton coach Al Stern said.

Colleton Prep 3, Thomas Heyward 2: The Rebels fell 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 23-25, 8-15.

Contributors for the Rebels included Victoria Quick (11 kills, five aces, 17 digs, two assists), Sydney Glassberg (eight kills, seven aces and 12 digs), Hailey Malphrus (15 digs, 15 assists), Shelby Vest (19 kills, 12 digs), Jamie Davis (four digs, 15 assists).

Thomas Heyward (4-6, 2-1) hosts Beaufort Academy next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Hilton Head Prep 3, St. Andrew's 0: The Dolphins (2-10) earned their second win of the season, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22.

Contributors included Megan Kelly (four aces, four kills, Carlie Van (18 assists), Taylor Kent (four aces, seven kills), Deia Hunt (five kills, five blocks), Riley Brown (five kills) and Paige Lucas (first kill).

The Dolphins host Beaufort Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday.
