Churches widen outlook rather than constrict it

Thanks so much to Laura Oberle for her wonderful story "Churches team up for sex ed program, 'Our whole lives'" in Saturday's newspaper.

I appreciated reading about a religious institution that seeks to broaden our outlook on the world rather than narrow it through a single lens. It is particularly welcome when it is the minds of children we are broadening.

As the religious educator Sophia Fahs has said, "The great end in religious instruction is not to stamp our minds upon the young, but to stir up their own; not to make them see with our eyes, but to look inquiringly and steadily with their own ... "
