Incompetence found at all government levels

As a republic-democracy, we're electing the worst of the worst. We have a federal government that has kept us at war since the 1950s. We have a Congress that's not doing its job, and lobbyists that control them all. We get involved in everyone's civil war with no better result.

Then we have a state government that's not concerned with education or health care. We're last in education and 47th in health care. We have more uninsured residents than most states.

Now let's look at Hilton Head Island government. The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina has been operating at a loss for more than a decade even with accommodations tax contributions. Now the Town Council is paying a consultant $80,000 to determine why the center is in the red and what impact it has on tourism. I can save them $80,000. The number of tourists who attend their productions in a year probably wouldn't pay for one night's electric bill. The arts center has no impact on tourism.

I spent years talking to tourists at the Tiki Hut, and not once did the arts center ever come up as a point of interest. As for us local residents, not many of us care. If enough of us did, this conversation would be moot.
