Hilton Head Island Mayor Drew Laughlin recognized four residents Sept. 9 at his quarterly Citizens of the Month Dinner at Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks.

The islanders honored are:

  • Bill Lawrenson, whose volunteer work with the Hilton Head Boys & Girls Club instructing youth about television and stage production resulted in a nomination for a national club award. Lawrenson also has hosted an annual Christmas party that has raised more than $71,000 over the last seven years for Deep Well.

  • Tom Henz, who served as chairman of the Board of Directors of United Way of the Lowcountry. Henz is also a Boy Scout leader and has served in various capacities on several nonprofit boards.

  • Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette columnist and associate editorial page editor David Lauderdale, for "extolling the joy of being stuck in the pluff mud of life."

  • Mary Helen Edwards, who serves as the president of the Women's Golf Association at Sea Pines Country Club and volunteers for the "Play for Pink" program that raises money and awareness for breast cancer detection and research.
