A subsidiary of the Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Services has been awarded a rural business grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the health agency announced.

The Consortium of Local Independent Businesses of Sheldon Township will receive $80,000 to divide among three or four local businesses so they can obtain minority-owned certifications, which will help them obtain government contracts, the agency said.

Steve Green, consortium executive director, says the grant should create 10 jobs in the Sheldon area.
