High School Roundup, Sept. 11: Young Bluffton volleyball team wins

A roundup of Wednesday's high school sporting events featuring area teams.

VOLLEYBALL

Bluffton 3, St. Vincent's 1: The Bobcats (3-5) downed St. Vincent's 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20 despite being forced to start four freshmen because of injuries.

"They played very well," Bluffton coach Al Stern said. "The highlight of the whole night was how the freshmen played. Without them, we couldn't have won."

The Bobcats play Saturday in a tournament at Glynn Academy.

JV: Bluffton 2, St. Vincent's 1

Whale Branch (Tuesday): The Warriors defeated a pair of opponents, topping Denmark-Olar (25-21, 25-16) and Allendale-Fairfax (25-17, 25-19). Shaniqua Johnson had eight kills and seven aces to lead Whale Branch. Kemoni Jenkins added seven kills and six aces, Olivia Walker had five kills and seven aces, Shay Jiles had six kills and four aces, Rietta Salters had four kills and seven aces, and Jonae Riley had three kills and five aces.
