Easy money behind rising education costs

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 11, 2013

Is President Barack Obama's recent railing against skyrocketing college costs political theater, or does he really not understand that the federal government has actually fueled this inflation over the years with ever-expanding student aid and loans?

Increasingly available tuition loan money whets the college spending appetite, sharpens its claws and burdens students for decades.

Have you ever looked into the student classroom time of some of the top college professors? Try four to six hours a week, plus "private consultation" time and often laughable research projects. And how about their salaries, not to mention the high six figures their presidents pull down. The days of the poor, struggling educator are over.

On a lighter note, what do you think are God's two greatest inventions? I vote for puppy dogs (even after they've grown up) and women, not necessarily in that order.

Finally, will everyone please give the word "iconic" a rest. Since the word should imply rarity, so many "iconics" render everything un-iconic. Thanks.
