Chance to improve park comes with school's use

info@islandpacket.comSeptember 9, 2013

As a resident of Beaufort's Northwest Quadrant and treasurer of the Northwest Quadrant Neighborhood Association, I am interested that the Bridges Preparatory charter school is using the Washington Street park for recess periods.

It was my understanding that the park is privately owned although maintained by the city. From whom did the school get permission to use the park?

The Northwest Quadrant Neighborhood Association has been trying to get bathrooms built at the park for more than three years, but couldn't because of the lack of funding and permission.

I wonder if the Bridges charter school could be persuaded to build the bathrooms since it is using the park. Plans for the bathrooms and other improvements to the park were drawn in 2011 and are available.
