Bluffton's John Patterson among hopefuls at US Mid-Amateur qualifying at Chechessee Creek Golf Club

Ninety golfers will tee it up Monday morning at Okatie's Chechessee Creek Golf Club for a chance to play in the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.

The championship, for amateurs age 25 and older, will be held Oct. 5 through Oct. 10 at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.

Okatie's John Patterson leads a contingent of 11 area golfers in the field. Patterson has had a strong summer, winning the Hilton Head Open and the South Carolina Open.

The other area golfers are Beaufort's Benji Gecy, Hilton Head's Jake Williams, Bluffton's Bob Engler, Beaufort's Rob Simmons, Hilton Head's Jordan Carpenter, Bluffton's Tim Ferguson, Bluffton's Ronald Wilson, Hilton Head's Richard Brown, Bluffton's J.D. Hoft and Beaufort's Matt O'Quinn.
