After two disastrous games, the Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels finally scratched the win column in Week 2, beating Calhoun Academy, 42-26, in Ridgeland.

"It was huge," Rebels coach Nic Shuford said. "We played two pretty good teams to open the season. The boys kept working. It would have been easy to hang their heads, but they responded well and came out and did a good job tonight."

Jared Rountree led the Rebels, rushing 22 times for 217 yards and three touchdowns. Seth Jones added 140 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

"We had the running game going early," Shuford said. "We got good push up front, and our backs did a good job of reading blocks and getting positive yardage."

Jones added 85 yards a a touchdown receiving, while Anthony Sanders had a 71-yard touchdown reception.

On defense, Jones led the way with eight tackles, while Rountree and Brody Etheridge added six apiece. Sanders had an interception, as well.

The Rebels (1-2) ended a three-game losing streak that reached back to last season's SCISAA Class 3-A championship against Hilton Head Christian.
