Sept. 11 ceremonies set in Beaufort, Bluffton

The city of Beaufort will hold its annual Sept. 11 ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park; the Bluffton Police Department also plans a ceremony for 8:40 a.m. at Town Hall.

The Beaufort event will honor local veterans and first-responder organizations, and the Exchange Club of Beaufort will present awards for firefighter and law enforcement officer of the year.

Guest speakers will include North Carolina firefighter John Woodall, an Elvis impersonator and veteran's advocate, and Ed Kormedi, a firefighter who was in New York during the aftermath of Sept. 11.

The Bluffton Police Department's 5th annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will feature speaker Wells Morrison of Lady's Island, the FBI's deputy-on-scene commander during the recovery effort in Shanksville, Pa., where hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001.
