A Hilton Head Island man was charged with throwing body fluids and third-degree assault and battery Wednesday after an incident in August when he spit on a jail officer, according to a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman.

The 31-year-old man was charged on an outstanding warrant for an Aug. 16 incident at the Beaufort County Detention Center, police Cpl. Hope Able said. The man had been arrested on Hilton Head on a charge of public disorderly conduct and third-degree assault and battery, according to the jail log.

Beaufort police served the warrant on him at the jail since the jail is in the city's jurisdiction, Police Chief Matt Clancy said.

The man is being held for prosecution, according to the jail log.
